Western Wisconsin squad earns conso title

Western WI 2, Point-Rapids 1

Western Wisconsin scored two first period goals and that held up as they defeated the Point-Rapids Red Panthers in the consolation contest in the Wisconsin River Classic held Saturday.

Sophie Klein opened the scoring with her rush down the left side that ended with a goal from the left dot to give the Stars an early 1-0 lead at the 7:12 mark of the first.

Four minutes later, Margo Gauper punched in a rebound to give WWS a 2-0 lead in the middle of the first period.

The Red Panthers got back into the game with Emily Exner's rebound in the middle of the second period to make it 2-1.

Catherine Magler stopped 29 shots for the Stars, while Merina Chappel made 35 saves in a nice effort for the Red Panthers.



GAme 2

Fox Cities 4, Western WI 2

Ally Fox scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the Fox Cities to victory in the 'Battle of the Stars'.

Fox scored late in the first period with her hard on-ice shot that beat goalie Catherine Magler on the stick side.

Bailey Erickson scored early in the second to tie the game, but Kendra Littrell scored on the power play six minutes later to give FCS a 2-1 lead.

Marin Kelly and Fox scored six minutes apart in the third to give the FCS a commanding 4-1 lead before Allie Stock accounted for the final goal with just over two minutes left to make the final 4-2.

Morgan Talbot stopped 13 shots for Fox Cities, while Magler made 18 saves for Western WI.

game 1

CFM 2, Point-Rapids 1 (OT)

Freshman Amanda McCulloch scored in overtime to give Chippewa Falls/Menomonie the extra period victory in the lid-lifter of the Wisconsin River Classic held at the South Wood County Rec Center on Saturday.

Marissa Gibbs scored on the power play less than a minute into the second period to give CFM the 1-0 lead.

P/R freshman Bear Herndon scored her first varsity goal in the middle of the period on the power play to tie the contest at one.

McCulloch's goal between goalie Merina Chappel's right skate and the post at 4:51 of the OT was the difference.

Lexi Hermann made 28 saves in the game for CFM, while Chappel stopped 27 shots for P/R.
