Chip Falls/Menomonie co-op wins Wisconsin River Classic

Chippewa Falls/Menomonie freshman Kaylee Frenette picked up a loose puck in her d-zone and skated it coast-to-coast before burying it in the net behind Fox Cities goalie Morgan Talbot to give CFM an exciting 1-0 overtime victory in the Wisconsin River Classic.

The tournament--held at the South Wood County Rec Center--featured three one-goal victories and two overtime games. CFM played in both extra period games and won both.

The Stars outshot CFM 26-11 in the contest and had good chances, but the tight CFM defense and goalie Lexi Hermann kept every puck out of the net.

Hermann earned the tournament's only shutout with her 26 save performance in the game and stopped 54 of 55 overall (.982 save%) for the day.

The Stars' Ally Fox made numerous forays into the CFM end, only to be denied by stellar defense and goaltending.

Each team had four power play chances but were unable to convert, with the difference being the individual short-handed effort by Frenette at 3:47 of the overtime.

Talbot stopped 10 shots for Fox Cities.
