Antigo out-shoots Rhinelander 54 - 10

The Antigo Red Robins out-shot the Rhinelander Hodags 54 to 10 on their way to a 5 – 1 win in Great Northern Conference action from the Langlade County Ice Arena on Thursday night.

The puck spent most of the first period in the Rhinelander end of the ice, but goalie Jake Arno kept it out of the Hodag's net. Early on, Jed Wexi got behind the Hodag defense for a breakaway, but Arno stuffed him. The Robins' leading scorer, Alex Nagel go a pass in the low slot just before time expired on the frame, but Arno denied him also.

Arno made 14 saves in the first period, while his Antigo counterpart, Ryan Schmidt stopped both shots he saw.

Early in the second period, Nagel and Elijah Wickersheim worked the puck from the side boards to the front of the net. After getting kicked around in the crease, the puck came to Weix at the left of the net, and he flipped it over a sprawling Arno to put the Robins on the board.

A couple minutes later, the Robins caught all five Hodag skaters on the attack and transitioned into a 3-on-0. Nagel passed to Wickersheim, who put a backhand shot on net. Arno made the save, but Weix was there again to put home the rebound.

Late in the period, Nagel got the puck around the top of the left faceoff circle, weaved his way through three defenders, drew Arno out of his crease, then went around him to slide the puck into the back of the net to put Antigo up 3-0.

Early in the second period, Ryan Schmidt mishandled a dump-in, and his clearing pass went right to the stick of Dylan Roeser, or Dylan Reserve, if you follow us on Twitter. Roeser walked in and beat Schmidt to put the Hodags on the board.

Midway through the third, Nagel picked up the puck along the right boards, skated it out into the slot and fired a shot on net. The puck ricocheted of a defenseman's stick and got past Arno to put the Robins up 4-1.

Jack Shinners finished the scoring for the Robins when he took a pass at the blue line from Nagel and dropped down into the faceoff circle. His wrist shot deflected off a defender's skate and slipped passed Arno for a 5-1 Robin lead.

The win moves the Robins to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in Conference play, while the Hodags fall to 1-2 overall, and 0-1 in Great Northern Conference games.
