WiPH partner will get his head shaved to support cancer research

Over the past few years, the hockey family has lost people to cancer.

The Hudson hockey family lost Karen Drewiske this past February.

In April 2013, the Blizzard lost Darren Lien.

This past year Randy Bentley (a former assistant coach under Mike Cowan for the Fondy-Waupun Warbirds) lost a loved one to cancer.

Everyone knows someone who has died from cancer. Wisconsin Prep Hockey wanted to show its support for cancer research and will be doing a fundraiser to kick off the 2014-15 hockey season.

WiPH partner Del Scanlon will be placing his hair on the line in exchange for donations from fans of the Wisconsin High School hockey teams.

Wisconsin Prep Hockey will set up a page to allow people and businesses to make a donation to be credited to their favorite team. Donations will be accepted through December 13, 2014.

When it has been determined which team has the highest amount of donations, Del will work with that team to schedule an appearance at one of their home games and have his head shaved at the game.

If you saw Del during the state tournament and noticed the length of his hair, it has only gotten longer as the year has gone by. He doesn't plan on a haircut until it is shaved in December.

With the 124 boys and girls high school teams in the state, we would raise over $12,000 with the teams averaging just $100 each.

Currently, Del’s hair is long enough for it to be donated to Locks of Love and then shaved.

I've known Del for about ten years. Beneath the bad boy biker exterior lies one of the most genuine, caring people that I know.

He would do anything for anybody and really cares about this cause.

Del would not only give you the shirt off his back, he'd give you the hair off his head.

So when it comes time to donate, please do so generously so we can help beat cancer.

Thank you!
