Central District defends America’s Showcase Title

Johnson leads team with nine points

The Central District girls’ team defended its America’s Showcase title by winning four straight games in Pittsburgh this past weekend.

The team opened against the Atlantic District and found itself down 4-1 entering the third period. Five third period goals led to a 6-4 win. Jill Schneider who plays for the Phillips boys’ team tallied the tying goal. A 2-1 decision over Michigan followed and then beat Rocky Mountain 5-1 as Hudson’s Paige Johnson tallied twice.

In the championship game, Schneider scored in the first minute as the Central District scored a convincing 5-2 win over the Atlantic District. Johnson led the team in scoring with four goals and five assists while defender Jillian Rowland of Missouri added five goals and two assists. Rachel Pawlak from Baraboo had a goal and three assists.

Other Wisconsin players on the team were: forwards Haley Hill from Appleton and Jessica Malloy from the Jr. Admirals; defenders Destiny Muir from Black River Falls, Alison Takkunen from Hudson and Madison Hoven of the Madison Capitols. Goaltender Libby Breaker from Appleton was in net for the first win over Atlantic and the win over Rocky Mountain. Players from Illinois and Missouri completed the squad.
