Final day of pool play at Nationals

All three TW boys teams move on to quarters

TW U19 Girls 4, New Jersey Colonials 2

After suffering losses the first two days, the U19 girls played a solid game and took a 4-2 victory on Friday in Marlborough, Mass.

Cali Sanborn scored in the first period to give TW a 1-0 lead, which they held until the middle of the second when the Colonials tied the game on a goal by Kellie Gatarz.

Going into the third period knotted at one, TW turned on the power (play) and scored two goals on the man advantage in a four minute span early in the period. Jacyn Reeves and Kelly Knetter goals made it 3-1 with ten minutes left, and then Kelsey Rafferty scored six minutes later to make it 4-1.

The Colonials scored on a breakaway by Rebekah Lucas with seven seconds left to account for the final score.

Ellie Bohm added two assists for TW.

Kenzie Torpy (13) and Kristen Pechacek (12) combined for 25 saves, as TW was outshot 27-25 in the game.

TW finished at 1-2 and ended 3rd in the four-team Pool C.


WEHL North Central 6, Channel Island Riptide 5 (ot)

Zach Leggon scored just under two minutes into overtime to give WEHL NC a 6-5 win on Friday in Reston, Va.

Channel Island held a 2-0 lead after one period but NC battled back in the second. Davis Cowden scored just over three minutes in to cut the lead to 2-1 before the Riptide scored to make it 3-1 one minute later.

Luc Kreuser scored on the power play to make it 3-2 and then nearly four minutes later Jacob Dufresne tied the score. Channel Island scored again to take a 4-3 lead into the second break.

Most of the final stanza was scoreless until Sam Medo scored to tie the game at four with four minutes left. The Riptide went ahead a minute later, but NC fought back and Colton Raymond scored the tying goal with 1:05 left.

It took Leggon less than two minutes to tally the game-winner in the extra period.

Jacob Arno stopped 17 shots in earning the win.

TW held the shot edge, 42-22.

The team finished 0-2-1 and ended in 3rd place in Pool C.


U14 TW 2, Buffalo Regals 1 (ot)

Mick Messner scored twice, including the game-winner in OT to give TW a 2-1 win over the Regals Friday in DePere.

After trailing 1-0 late in the final period, Messner tied the game with 1:32 left.

He got the OT winner 4:43 into the overtime period.

TW was outshot in the game 41-28, with Adam Larson stopping 40 shots for the win.

TW finished Pool A play with a record of 1-1-1 and will move on the quarterfinal round where they will play the #1 seed in Pool C (Chicago Mission) at 9:00am at Cornerstone.


U18 TW 2, Thunder Hockey 0

Aaron Miller had a goal and an assist and Jacob Bresser scored as TW edged Thunder 2-0 Friday in Ashwaubenon.

Nathan Siclovan notched his second shutout of the tourney with his 24 save performance.

TW finished with a perfect 3-0 record and holds the first spot after pool play in Bracket B. They will take on Culver Prep at 1:00pm in quarterfinal action on Saturday at Cornerstone.

U16 TW 5, Scranton Jr. Knights 2

After trailing by a score of 2-1 early in the third period, TW put four pucks in the net in a span of nine minutes to cruise to a 5-2 win Friday in Ashwaubenon.

Kevin Conley scored in the second to tie the game before Scranton went ahead early in the third.

Ty Pelton-Byce scored five minutes into the third to tie the contest. Four minutes later, Sam McCormick scored to put TW ahead 3-2.

Pelton-Byce scored again three minutes later before Alec Broetzman scored to account for the final tally.

Shots were nearly even at 33-32 in favor of TW. Henry Cutting stopped 30 shots in the win.

TW finished 2-0-1 and first in Pool C play. They will take on the Buffalo Regals at 11:00am at Cornerstone.
