Girls Sectional Four Final - Bay Area Ice Bears Ride Win Streak to Madison

Kelsey Rafferty comes through in overtime

 Bay Area won the two earlier meetings between the two team on their home ice.  They took the early lead at 1:53 when Megan Call slid a puck through the crease and Megan Saari tapped it into the goal for a 1-0 lead.  Megan Call and Miranda Dreckschmidt were credited with assists on the goal.   USM's Hannah Koniar was called for roughing at 3:06 of the first putting the Ice Bears on the power play.  Bay Area was unable to take advantage of the oppotunity.  The Wildcats tie the game on a backhanded, top shelf goal by Nicole Unsworth at 7:19 of the first period.  Megan Saari was accessed a penalty at 12:23 for interference and USM capitalized on it 18 seconds later.  Caitlin McBride scored the power play goal with Nina Andersen and Hannah Koniar being credited with the assist.  Rose Revolinski was called for tripping at 13:09 of the first period.  Once again the Wildcats were able to kill off the penalty.  The score at the end of the first period USM 2 Bay Area 1.

The second period consisted of both teams playing physical hockey and taking turns on the power play.  Neither team coul take advantage and the score remained 2-1 at the end of two periods.  Lindsey Strainis had a total of 18 saves at the end of two periods, while Jamie Hathaway had 15 saves.

Bay Area ties the game shortly after the halfway mark of the third period on a goal by Johanna Cano and assisted by Nicole Niemi,  Nina Andersen was called for a checking from behind penalty at 10:37 of the period and accessed a 5 minute major and 10 minute misconduct.  The Wildcats were able to kill off the major penalty and send the game into overtime.

The teams continued to play physical into the extra period.  The Bay Area Ice Bears advanced to Madison, when Kelsey Rafferty one timed the puck in the back door with Autumn Anderson and Nicole Niemi assisting at the 4:13 mark.  Jamie Hathaway finished the game with 30 saves, while Linsey Strainis had 26.

The Bay Area Ice Bears will make their second trip to Madison.  They will play the winner of the sectional two final between Northland Pines and the Central Wisconsin Storm
