Milanowski and Brooks each tally three points

Rachel Metz and Katrina Hassig each scored two goals, while Amanda Milanowski and Bryar Brooks added three points each to lead the Point-Rapids Red Panthers past a depleted Marshfield squad 6-1 on a snowy Tuesday night in Marshfield.

The Red Panthers arrived to find that Tiger goalie Alexis Straughan was out with a left knee injury. And that back-up netminder Lexi Dupee had tendinitis in both knees. The only choice that coach Don Larson had was to insert freshman Madi Hall into the line-up, fresh up from the ranks of U14.

The rookie played well and the Tigers were the better team for most of the first period until the guests scored twice in a sixty-eight second span late in the period.

Hassig grabbed a loose puck in the neutral zone and motored down the left side before firing a shot from the left dot that zipped past Hall for a 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later, Milanowski had a near-carbon copy of the first goal, beating the goalie high on the glove side. Freshman Brooks earned her first varsity point on the score.

Marshfield held an 8-5 shot advantage in the period.

Metz increased the lead to 3-0 just over three minutes into the second when she scored on a pass to the low right side, with assists to Milanowski and Brooks.

Exactly four minutes later, Metz added her second goal while on the penalty kill. Her shot from the right dot bounced off a defender's stick and Hall's left shoulder before ending in the net for a 4-0 lead.

Hassig made it 5-0 with just under five minutes left when she tallied a rebound goal, with an assist to freshman Breanna Conrad, who notched her first varsity point.

The Tigers outshot the visitors 14-8 in the middle stanza.

Brooks sent the game to run time five minutes into the final period when she banged home a rebound from the low slot. Milanowski and Metz were given helpers on the play.

The Tigers tenacious play earned them a goal with just under six minutes left. Morgan Larson put on a burst of speed and ripped a shot from the right circle that beat Red Panther goalie Merina Chappel, who entered the game in the second period. Nell Eichten and Kaylee Geiger were credited with assists on the scoring play.

Marshfield once again held the shot edge, 11-10.

Emily Bubla earned the win with her 15 save performance. Chappel--in her first varsity action--stopped 17 shots for the Red Panthers, who improved to 1-1 (1-0 GNC).

Hall made 17 saves for the Tigers, who fell to 0-2 (0-1 GNC).
