Janesville Jets Midget Tourney and Alumni Tournament in Oregon can help

With early May here and hockey dwindling down for the summer, I start to look around for events going on and for this Mother's Day Weekend I was able to find a little bit of hockey past and future right here in Southern Wisconsin.

Here in my little spot of the world, aka Janesville, The Janesville Jets are hosting a Midget Tournament starting Friday at 4pm at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.

Six teams from throughout Wisconsin are going to be playing in front of coaches and scouts. The Jr. Jets, Coulee Region Jr. Chill, Milwaukee Jr. Admirals, Team PHD from Madison, Milwaukee Phoenix  and Wiscohockey.com will be the teams there.

"We are excited to give more players the chance to get exposure and to have this be annual event here in Janesville," said Head Coach Joe Dibble.

"Hopefully we can find a Janesville Jet or two."

Admission is $5 for a daily, or $10 for a weekend pass.

There will be raffle prizes and other items there as well, along with some great hockey and trophies given out.

Now for 'Hockey Past.'

On-Ice Promotions is putting on its LaBatts Blue Alumni Hockey Tournament this weekend in Oregon. Sixteen teams have put together teams to battle it out for the right to hold its head high and be crowned the champion.

Madison West ended Stoughton's try last year at a three-peat and is coming back to defend its title. The action goes on all weekend starting at 2pm Friday, all the way to the Championship game Sunday at 3:30.

Now it's not all about hockey and having a good time. It's also for a good cause.

There will be a party tent on Saturday night featuring the band Super Tuesday. 100% of the profits go to the UW Carbone Cancer Center Pancreas Task Force Fund.

The fundraising is in memory of hockey Mom and devoted wife Becky Tempel, who passed away almost one year ago. If you need to set your GPS to the rink,  its Oregon Community Sports Arena, 100 North Perry Parkway in Oregon. You can follow the games at www.onicepromotions.com and there is no gate fee to come watch.

So with those events going on this weekend, I would like to wish all the moms, especially hockey ones a great weekend.
