Despite the short notice, one-third of the finalists for the inaugural Wisconsin Prep Hockey (WiPH) Awards were able to attend the ceremony honoring the those chosen as finalists for the Joe Pavelski Top Offensive Player award; Davis Drewiske Top Defensive Player award; and Kirk Daubenspeck Top Goalie award.
Daubenspeck, a Madison-area resident, was able to attend and presented the award for top goalie.
Three of the finalists had time constraints and were not able to attend due to playing in the state semifinal game that began just one hour after the ceremony would end.
Earning the honor for the Joe Pavelski award was Brett Gruber of Notre Dame Academy. The junior forward scored 57 points on the year (28g-29a) in 28 games in helping the Tritons back to the state tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
Teammate Luke Davison was the winner of the Davis Drewiske award. The junior defenseman tallied 44 points (5g-39a) in 28 games, also notching a +/- rating of +41.
The Kirk Daubenspeck award was presented to goalie Nathan Siclovan of Stevens Point. The sophomore stopped over 95% of the pucks fired at him and allowed 1.14 goals per game while blanking five opponents.
