Last year, the final game of the girls' season matched Onalaska against the Central Wisconsin Storm for the state title. The Storm grabbed the first-place trophy with a 6-2 win.

Friday, the Hilltoppers got a small measure of revenge as they defeated the Storm 5-4 in semi-final action at the Clamshell (AKA Alliant Energy Center).

The first period opened with Central Wisconsin drawing first blood. Savannah Felch scored from the left dot at 2:01 with an assist from Kelly Knetter.

Onalaska tied the game just over five minutes later when Molly Coughlin pitch-forked a back-hander through traffic at 7:31, with an assist to Jamie Weilandt.

Just over a minute later, Alex Guenther scooted down the right side and beat Hilltoppers goalie Jeanalyn Schindler from the low right circle to make it 2-1.

The back-and-forth continued as Chazlyn Anderson grabbed a pass on the low left side and beat Storm goalie Lisa Fowle high on the blocker side. Weilandt and Coughlin were credited with helpers on the play.

Theresa Knutson--Jinelle Siergiej Offensive Player of the Year winner--put the Hilltoppers ahead for good with her score from close-in with 1:36 left in the first. Shots were 18-6 in favor of Onalaska.

Six minutes into the second period, Jacyn Reeves took the puck behind the net, skated out to the low right circle and sniped the puck past Fowle high on the glove side. Anderson was given an assist on the play.

The Storm would score on the second of two straight power plays to cut the lead to 4-3 late in the period.

Knetter took the puck into the slot and ripped a shot that pinged off the left post for the power play goal at 13:30.

Onalaska held a 14-6 shot edge in the period.

Just 36 seconds into the final period, Weilandt scored on the power play for the Hilltoppers, with an assist to Anderson.

Five minutes later, the Storm cut the lead to 5-4 with Kylie Gazzolo's one-timer on a pass from Izzy Uhl-Chmiel at 5:42.
