Ex-Oshkosh star tallies twice in first twelve minutes

Nick Monfils left his high school team knowing what he could do and moved to a situation where he was unsure of the possibilities.

The ex-Oshkosh star answered that question as he scored twice in the first period of his first game for the Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League Wednesday night in a 6-3 win over the Odessa Jackalopes.

Monfils left the Oshkosh Ice Hawks to further his hockey career, joining the IceRays on February 6.

The 5-10, 170 lb. forward had 76 points (41g-35a) in 23 games with the Ice Hawks this season.

Monfils was named Wisconsin Prep Player of the Week earlier this season and is currently in the running for Wisconsin Player of the Year – “Mr. Hockey” as well as the Badgerland Conference Player of the Year.

Monfils has set all of Oshkosh’s scoring records and has led the team in virtually all major categories, compiling 210 career points.

He has left his mark on Oshkosh high school hockey and is noted as one of Wisconsin high school hockey’s most dynamic scoring threats. Coach Jonathan Schubert and the entire Oshkosh hockey community wish Nick great success in the North American Hockey League.

"Over the years Monfils has drawn so much attention that hockey is beginning to grow (in the Oshkosh community)," noted Schubert.
