2013 North Shore Hockey Tournament Supports Bone Marrow Donor Drive

Press Release

2013 North Shore Hockey Tournament, Ozaukee Ice Center
January 28 - February 2
Great hockey for a great cause... "Get in the game and save a life!"

Homestead High School is hosting the annual North Shore Hockey Tournament, January 28 - February 2, at Ozaukee Ice Center, featuring high school hockey teams from Cedarburg, Grafton/Port Washington/Ozaukee/Milkwaukee Lutheran (GPO) co-op, Germantown, Whitefish Bay/Nicolet/Shorewood (WNS) co-op and Homestead.

The annual North Shore Hockey Tournament promises to deliever great high school hockey from some of the Milwaukee area's top teams and is a key fundraising event for local hockey communities and their hockey programs. In addition to great hockey, this year's tournament will also help with a great cause.

In honor of Homestead's Coach Tony Navarre, a leukemia survivor whose life was saved with a bone marrow transplant in 2011, a portion of this year's tournament proceeds will benefit the National Marrow Done Program "Be the Match" registry. In addition, a bone marrow drive will take place the last day of the tournament on Saturday, February 2, 4-8:30 p.m. at Ozaukee Ice Center. All people ages 18-44 are encouraged to rigster with a simple cheek swab!  The more people who are on the registry, the better the odds are that a person whose life depends on it will receive their life-saving transplant.

On March 16, 2011, Home Stead High School teacher and hockey coach, Tony Navarre, was diagnosed with an agressive form of leukemia. His only chance of survival was a bone marrow transplant. He received his life-saving transplant on December 3, 2011, thanks to the ONE person who matched him on the registry, and that individual was from another country!

So, mark your calendars, save the date, and come and watch some great hockey to benefit Homestead Hockey and the National Marrow Donor Program. "Get in the game and save a life!" January 28 - February 2, Ozaukee Ice Center, 5505 Pioneer Road Mequon, WI, 53097.
