Middleton co-op outshoots Red Panthers 42-12

The Metro Lynx scored early and set the tone against the Point-Rapids Red Panthers Thursday evening at Hartmeyer Ice Arena in Culvers Cup tournament play, as the Lynx skated off with a 4-0 win in first round play.

Just 1:14 into the first period, a shot from the low right circle area by Shelby Hill trickled off the glove of Red Panthers goalie Emily Bubla and into the net to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead, with an assist to Anna Schieldt.

The Red Panthers killed off a penalty in the middle of the period, but the Lynx would extend their lead to 2-0 with just over two minutes left in the first.

Lizzi Schieldt grabbed a pass from behind the net from Ellie Bohm and banged the puck home from the slot area. Anna Schieldt also got a helper on the play.

Point-Rapids took two penalties 27 seconds apart with about one minute left, but the Lynx were unable to tally on the two-player advantage.

The period ended with the Lynx holding a 15-4 shot edge.

The Red Panthers killed off 48 seconds of 5-on-3 to start the period and that seemed to inspire the central Wisconsin team, as they kept the score at 2-0 until the very end of the period.

As Point-Rapids was called for a delayed penalty, the puck found its way on to Lizzi Schieldt's stick and she roofed the puck into the upper right corner over a sprawled Bubla, who had made two nice saves just prior. The score at the 16:49 mark saw an assist go to Bohm, her second.

The Lynx held a 17-4 shot advantage in the period.

Jordann Herrling scored during a goal-mouth scramble at the 6:05 mark of the third for the final score. Shots were 10-4 in favor of the Lynx.

Although it was relatively quiet on her end, the Lynx' Katie Roe stopped 12 shots for a shutout, her second of the season. Bubla made 38 saves for the Red Panthers in the loss.

The Lynx will face the Brookfield Glacier (4-0 winners over the St. Croix Valley Fusion) at 6:30pm Friday at Hartmeyer.

The Red Panthers will match-up against the Fusion at 4pm, also at Hartmeyer.
