Boxrucker, Baumann and Susens to be honored

On Saturday, September 8, the number of honorees in the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame is going to increase to 104 when Joe Boxrucker, George Baumann and Peter Susens are inducted into the prestigious fraternity at a ceremony held in Eagle River.

Boxrucker has been involved in the Eagle River hockey scene in one position or another since 1972. He served on the Eagle River Recreation Association (ERRA) board from 1975-1987. He was instrumental in the expansion and additions to the Eagle Rink rink, commonly known as 'The Dome.'

He helped turn the Eagle River Summer Hockey School into a successful endeavor and has also been a member  of the Wisconsin Hockey HOF board of directors since 1981.

Baumann began his hockey career as a broadcaster in Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1970. He moved to Waupun in 1974 and continued his radio career and in 1976 began ranking high school teams and providing them to the state-wide press. Soon after, he created the George Baumann High School Hockey Report, a weekly newsletter that was a forerunner of all high school hockey reporting happening today in Wisconsin.

Susens, currently the head coach at Wausau West, started his hockey career in Superior. He began coaching at West in 1977 and has since rung up a state title to go along with his nine Wisconsin Valley titles and 11 state tourney appearances. His 526 victories are the most in state history.

Susens is also a member of the UW-Superior Hall of Fame, along with being inducted into the Superior Athletic and Academic Hall of Fame.
