Section One scores a flock of goals in 14-5 record-setting win

The Mighty Ducks have nothing on these guys.

Section One--aka the 'Northern Ducks'--scored six times in the first period and never looked back in a 14-5 win over Section Eight in the SCT championship game held Sunday afternoon in Waupun.

The nine-goal margin is the largest in SCT championship game history, the previous being seven (7-0 victory by Big Eight over Fox Valley in 1994).

Nate Jones opened the scoring at the 4:16 mark and was followed just over a minute later by Joe Engelhart to make it 2-0.

Just under two minutes later, Max Skatrud scored the first of his two goals at the 7:41 mark to give the 'Ducks' a 3-0 lead.

Drew Otto added a power play goal at the 11:44 mark and Section One had a four-goal lead.

Jake Roeper cut the lead to 4-1 at the 12:08 mark of the period, but that was as close as S8 would get on this day.

Skatrud and Dylan Haskins scored in the last four minutes and S1 took a 6-1 lead to the locker room at the first break. Shots were 19-9 in favor of Section One.

Bryce Smit scored just over a minute into the second for S8 to make the score 6-2, but Anthony Dietmeier scored 31 seconds later for S1.

Brett Bukowski scored for One at the 2:59 mark to make it 8-2.

Colin Dassow made it 8-3 with his goal at the 6:28 mark, but once again Section One matched that goal with a score by Haskins--his second--19 seconds later.

Jared Johnson stuck one in the net for S8 at the 12:03 mark to make the score 9-4, but that was followed closely--two minutes later--by a Engelhart goal to put S1 into double-digits.

P.J. Corbett scored with 1:26 left to account for the final Section Eight goal and the period ended with S1 holding a 16-14 shot edge.

Caleb Dushkin got into the act as he scored the first of his two goals at 1:19 of the third, and repeated that over six minutes later to increase the score to 12-5.

Nolan Holcombe scored for Section One midway through the period, and Ian Strasburg scored with three minutes left to account for the final score.

Shots were 15-7 in favor of Section One.

The 32 goals scored by S1 is believed to be a record for most goals by one team in the SCT tournament.

Thomas Labatt (11) and Jacob Hilby (14) combined for 25 saves in the win. Alex Tillotson (14) and Jack McMahon (22) stopped a total of 36 pucks for Section Eight.

Since the eight sections format was introduced in 1997, Section One has three titles, and Section Eight has two. The game was a rematch of last year's title match, which had S8 coming out with a 7-2 win over Section One.
