Co-operative effort between the GWHCA and WAHA

The GWHCA and WAHA hosted the Girls Jr/Sr Tournament on Sunday at The Ponds at Waunakee.  The event had 49 girls registered from 23 of the 32 WIAA programs and both Tier I programs.  Girls were split up to 2 teams - Northwest vs Southeast and played a (3) 20 minute stop time game and a 16 minute mini game.  Though no official stats were kept the SE won the full length game 6-5 and NW took the mini game 2-1.

The games looked like an All-Star game with the exception of no cherry picking (except for SE's trick play at the end of the mini game), good team defense, and excellent goalie play by ALL the goalies.   Though the game was tame with only two penalties, one by the refs sister, that didn't stop some good fun trash talking between teams.  The NW even broke out some sick "celes" as the girls call them highlighted by a 3 girl canoe trip past the SE bench.  The uptempo play and fun on the ice was enjoyed by all - skaters, coaches and parents.

Along with the "tournament" was the evaluation for the Team WI girls team that will be attending the MN Girls HS NIT in April.  The team will be posted on Monday, March 12th.  Big thank you to Coach Hupp, Coach Jochmann, Coach Westmark for their coaching expertise and Andy Bradford, Dave Witting and Mary Ann Robinson for working out the details to put on a great event for so many on short notice.
