Heuser Leads Storm to Win

Final tuning prior to playoffs, senior night and the end of the regular season. The players were ready to go and it showed.

The first period belonged to the netminders as the goalies kept the score at 0 at the end of the first period. All the scorekeeper had to keep track of in the first period were the 19 saves by Elizabeth Bowers and 6 saves for Ilsa Brunner.

The Central Wisconsin Storm broke the seal on the net at 9:56 of the second period. Ava Rode kept the puck on the ice and beat Bowers glove side with Gabi Heuser and Madeline Kelter assisting to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. Gabie Heuser bumped the lead to two, on a hard shot high in the net, with Abigail Dhein and Michaela Gerum being credited with the assist. The Storm led 2-0 at the end of two.

Sophie Bohlin scored an unassisted goal at 7:16 of the third to make it a 3-0 game for Central Wisconsin with one official with his hand in the air for a delayed penalty call. The first penalty of the game was for tripping, but no time in the box due to the goal. Olivia Dykema scored for Lakeshore Lightning at 7:40 with Lauren Dykema assisting to cut the deficit to 2. Jayden Yirkovsky scored for the Storm at 8:25 with Taylor Freidel assisting to bring the lead back to 3 with a 4-1 lead. The Storm picked up a penalty for Interference at 8:57, but their penalty kill unit was up to the task to keep the score 4-1. The Storm were accessed their second penalty at 12:57 for hooking. While killing off the penalty, Central Wisconsin's Gabi Heuser scored a short handed goal with an assist from Hailey Piskula at 14:20. This completed the scoring as Central Wisconsin finished the regular season with a 5-1 win.
